Sue Findlay
Sue first discovered her passion for choral music and conducting while studying music at the University of Western Australia. After teaching Secondary School music in Perth and Geraldton, Sue returned to her hometown in 1998, immersing herself in Albany’s rich musical tapestry.
During her tenure as musical director of the Albany City Wind Ensemble from 2009 to 2022, Sue showcased her exceptional talents not only as a conductor but also as an accomplished trumpet player and pianist. Her dedication to the ensemble's growth and excellence left an indelible mark on the local music scene.
In 2013, Sue's passion for nurturing musical talent led her to establish the About FACE Youth Choir, aimed at inspiring young voices to continue their musical journey into adulthood. Building on this success, Sue launched the About FACE Kids initiative—a transformative four-day choral camp providing children aged 9-14 with a platform to explore the intricacies of choral singing and harmonisation.
Sue is also a talented songwriter and arranger. Her compositions include several children’s songs and two successful musicals which have played to large audiences.
Sue Findlay’s remarkable journey as a musician, conductor, and educator is a testament to her unwavering dedication to the art of choral music. Her relentless pursuit of excellence and her ability to ignite a passion for music in others make her a true luminary in the world of choral arts. When Sue raises the bar, she not only elevates the music but also empowers those around her to reach new heights.
